Il presente contributo analizza la regolamentazione giuridica e l'evoluzione dei valori dei noli marittimi a Ragusa (Dubrovnik) nel corso del XIV secolo. Basandosi sull'esame di circa 400 atti notarili stipulati tra il 1300 e il 1415, integrati dalla legislazione statutaria, il saggio delinea le caratteristiche del sistema del noleggio marittimo raguseo. In contrasto con l'ipotesi di una "rivoluzione" nella struttura dei noli marittimi, i dati mostrano una notevole stabilità nelle forme contrattuali e la mancata crescita nell'impiego di noli discriminati per unità di peso tra XIV e XV secolo. Allo stesso tempo, appare osservabile una certa diminuzione dei costi di trasporto nell'ultimo decennio del Trecento, da ascrivere al miglioramento delle condizioni di sicurezza e, soprattutto, a un sensibile aumento dei traffici commerciali nello spazio adriatico.

This paper examines the legal regulation and the evolution of freight rates in Ragusa (Dubrovnik) during the 14th century. Based on an analysis of approximately 400 notarial deeds drawn up between 1300 and 1415, supplemented by statutory legislation, the essay outlines the characteristics of the Ragusan maritime chartering system. Contrary to the hypothesis of a "revolution" in the structure of maritime freight, the data demonstrate a remarkable stability in contractual forms and a lack of growth in the use of freight rates discriminated by unit of weight between the 14th and 15th centuries. Simultaneously, a certain decrease in transport costs is observable during the last decade of the 1300s, attributable to improved security conditions and, above all, to a significant increase in commercial traffic within the Adriatic region.
